Build a plan that belongs to you

There is no single right kind of potential and no single right pathway. Practical, creative, technical, digital, analytical, organisational, academic and people-related capabilities all deserve equal respect. Use short notes, take your time and return whenever you are ready.

The Plan brings your development together.Carry forward the insights that matter from Wellness & Advancement, Skill Checks, careers support, other learning and your own experience. You do not need to repeat course exercises here.
Three equal routes. This full-plan route, the shorter starting-point route and the supported-conversation route all use the same six planning areas. Choose the format that helps you now. You can change routes at any time.

My plan details

01
Assess

What matters to me and what do I enjoy?

Begin with the things that give you interest, satisfaction, energy or purpose.

Motivation does not have to begin with confidence or a fixed career choice. It can begin by noticing what makes you want to take part, learn, help, make, solve or improve something.

02
Assess

What strengths and potential might I have?

Look beyond qualifications and job titles to what you can do, learn and contribute.

These are starting clues, not permanent labels. Potential can appear in many forms and can grow through opportunity, practice, support and experience.

Which kinds of activity might be worth exploring? Choose any that interest you. This does not sort you into a type, and you can change your mind.
03
Assess

What have I already done or experienced?

Recognise evidence from life, learning, interests and responsibility.

Paid work is only one source of experience. Think about education, projects, caring, sport, hobbies, volunteering, community activity, making or repairing things, online learning, helping at home and overcoming setbacks.

04
Assess

What possibilities would I like to explore?

Turn curiosity into options without forcing an early or permanent choice.

Possibility 2
05
Learn

What support and development might help me?

Choose priorities and identify the learning, people and practical help that could support progress.

Development can include the free Wellness & Advancement course, a PERFORM Skill Check, another course, careers advice, observation, practice, volunteering or a constructive conversation. Skill Checks indicate knowledge and understanding; they do not by themselves prove workplace competence.

Apply + Review

What realistic action will I take next?

Begin with manageable steps, keep useful evidence and review what you learn.

Choose actions that are within your reach now. Progress may be a conversation, an application, a practice task, a visit, a course, a new responsibility or asking for help. Small steps count when they move you forward.

My review

Return on your review date. Record what changed, what you learned and what you will do next.

Prepare my development story

Use this to begin a confident, constructive conversation with an employer, educator or adviser. Let it sound like you. Describe your initiative honestly rather than claiming experience or competence you have not yet demonstrated.

  • I am interested in…
  • I already bring…
  • I want to develop…
  • I have taken the initiative to…
  • I plan to apply this by…
  • My next step is…
